William Styron

Renowned for the elegance of his prose and his powerful moral engagement, he is one of the great writers of the generation succeeding that of Hemingway and Faulkner.

His books include Lie Down in Darkness, The Long March, Set This House on Fire, The Confessions of Nat Turner, Sophie's Choice, Darkness Visible, and A Tidewater Morning. He has received both the Pulitzer Prize and the American Book Award. The Way of the Warrior is a work in progress that he admits "may or may not be completed".

William Styron died in November 2006.
