Why 1968?
29. November 2007 11:43
1968 was the 9/11 of the Czech intellectual world.
For Heidegger: “The Festival is a way of thinking.”
This year, we are thinking about 1968.
Contrary to popular, political thinking—the Prague Spring is not a Chinese restaurant.
Looking back—it was the 9/11 of the Czech intellectual world.
The tremor remains.
If you don’t believe me, come to the Festival in June—and we’ll celebrate the fortieth anniversary together.
For the world the Prague Spring remains a beginning, when—in fact—it was the end—the beginning of the dark ages.
The world revolted—and the tanks moved into Prague.
We are still left with an uneasy feeling that only future generations can dispel.
Forget life style—concentrate on life.
Long live the future.
