Born in New Jersey and residing in Egypt, Maria Golia is author of Cairo, City of Sand, Photography and Egypt, and Meteorite, Nature and Culture, all published by Reaktion Books. A reviewer for the Times Literary Supplement, she contributes to a variety of middle-eastern and international online and print publications. From 1985-1992, she managed one of America’s premier progressive music and arts venues, the Caravan of Dreams, in Fort Worth Texas, hometown of iconoclast musician Ornette Coleman, the subject of her forthcoming Ornette Coleman: The Territory and the Adventure (2020). She is currently writing A Short History of Tomb Raiding in Egypt to be published in 2022, the 100th anniversary of Howard Carter’s discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb.
