Germano Almeida

Germano Almeida  has been called “ one of the greatest living writers to come from Cape Verde.”

He was born in 1945 on the island of Boa Vista, Cape Verde. He studied law in Lisbon and lives on the island of Sao Vincente, where he works as a lawyer. In 1989 he founded the publishing house Ilhéu Editora. His best known novel The Last Will and Testament of Senhor da Silva Araújo, 1989, was made into a feature film called, Napomuceno's Will, in 1997. The movie was awarded 1st prize at the Festival of Latin American cinema in Gramado, Brazil. The story depicts a Cape Verde businessman turned philanthropist who shocks his friends and family with the contents of his will.
