Graeme Gibson

Novelist and avid birdwatcher, Graeme Gibson was born in 1934, in London, Ontario. His pursuit of ornithology and environmental protection led to his most recent publication The Bedside Book of Birds, “a spellbinding miscellany of images, essays, poems and scientific extracts”.

“Birds had been around for over one hundred and fifty million years by the time humans appeared on the scene. We came to self-awareness surrounded by them. Doubtless birds and their eggs were our first fast food.”

Gibson is the acclaimed author of four novels: Five Legs, Communion, Perpetual Motion, and Gentleman Death.

Graeme Gibson is the past president of PEN Canada and the recipient of both the Harbourfront Festival Prize and the Toronto Arts Award, and is a member of the Order of Canada.

Graeme Gibson lives in Toronto with his spouse of thirty-six years, writer Margaret Atwood.

“Every female writer should be married to Graeme Gibson”, adds The Independent newspaper.

“But not all at once”, Margaret protests.

Every human being lived in a rich and productive eco-system. Life was relatively easy, and would remain so for another 20,000 years -- until population growth and the evolution of farming introduced the unfortunate notion of hard work.
