Nick Earls

He worked for some time as a General Practitioner before pursuing a career in writing.  His work is usually humorous and about everyday life, often in his hometown of Brisbane.  As such his writing has played a significant role in the promotion of tourism to Brisbane. 

In 1998 Earls received the Bettry Trask Award for his second novel, Zigzag Street, and his young adult novel 48 Shades of Brown received the Children’s Book Council of Australia Book of the Year Award in 2000. His works have been adapted for theatre and film, and his work has been featured in several anthologies including the Girl’s Night In and Kids‘ Night In series.

Earls currently resides in Brisbane, Australia, and most recently released the novels Monica Bloom (2006), Joel and Cat Set the Story Straight (2007) co-written along with Rebecca Sparrow, The True Story of Butterfish (2009), The Fix (2011), Word Hunters: the Curious Dictionary (2012), Welcome to Normal (2012).
